LaGuardia offers various special programs for incoming students like you to broaden your educational experience, sharpen your academic skills, and provide additional academic/personal support to ensure that you make it to graduation.

Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP)  helps motivated students to earn their degree as quickly as possible by providing them with the academic, social and financial support they need to graduate.


CUNY EDGE formerly known as COPE helps students meet CUNY college standards and Human Resources Administration (HRA) work obligations in order to help them graduate and maintain self-sufficiency through gainful employment.


College Discovery (CD ) provides students with financial help, personal, and/or academic counseling they need to do well in their classes and make it to graduation.


Honors Program brings together a diverse community of high-achieving scholars to conduct research, participate in rigorous studying and receive support to transfer to leading public and private four-year colleges.

Pre-College Special Programs 

CUNY Start is an intensive 18-week program offering classes in pre-college Math, Reading, Writing and a College Seminar, designed to support students in navigating college resources. The program enrolls prospective CUNY students who have been accepted to college but have been placed in developmental education classes, indicating potential need for extra academic support based on their CUNY Proficiency Index scores.

MATH Start is an intensive 8-18 week program (we have various schedules) offering classes in pre-college Math and a College Seminar, designed to support students in navigating college resources. The program enrolls prospective CUNY students who have been accepted to college but have been placed in developmental education classes, indicating potential need for extra academic support based on their CUNY Proficiency Index scores.

First Year Institute Program (FYIP)  offers workshops to prepare students for a developmental skills or introductory college-level course. Workshops are offered to students who are registered for the course.

College Now  is a free transition program for NYC public high school students to help them get an early introduction to college and a jump start on college coursework by taking credit, college-level courses.This experience helps students build the academic skills that are necessary to be successful at LaGuardia.
