Free Benefits Screening
Are you unemployed? Need health insurance? Rent too expensive? Need extra money in your pocket? Need help with childcare and medical expenses? The benefits screening takes you through a quick series of questions to see which public benefits you qualify for. We will discuss the options that are best for you, help you complete the application(s,) and then we help you to prepare for the application process. We have no fixed schedule, call for an appointment or drop in to the Enrollment Service Center located in C107 Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Fridays by appointment at (718) 482-5129 or email SingleStop@lagcc.cuny.edu.
Free Tax Preparation
Earn your maximum refund!! Completely free tax preparation and E-File submission through this special IRS approved program for both state and federal taxes is available to students and their families. Complete your taxes with us and you are automatically entered to win a brand new iPad!
The Tax season for 2011 is January 23 to April 17, 2012. Tax preparation experts will be on hand to assist tax preparers to get the maximum refund. Days and hours are as follows:
- Monday & Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Free Tax Prep services are being held in the C Building in either rooms C109 or C126. Please see signs to direct you to the appropriate room. Be sure to bring a photo ID, Social Security cards for each person appearing on your taxes, and W-2, or other tax documents, (1099, 1098T, eg)
The service is offered to students and their families. Please note that the income limit for individual or joint filers is $50,000.
Free Financial Counseling
Are you struggling with debt? Never had a credit card? Come and see our financial expert, Ilan Folman-Cohen. Through this free financial counseling program you will learn lifelong strategies to save money, build your assets and assist you with debt management.We can also help you to get your free credit report and credit score, establish credit if you have none, and improve your credit scores. We specialize in one-on-one, private counseling services to help you establish and achieve your financial goals. Come to see Ilan every Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in Room C107. Free Legal Aid
Do you have questions about divorce, child support, employment, housing, debt collection and others? Come and get free counseling! Our attorney, Evan Denerstein, is on-campus to answer those and any legal questions you have every Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the M Building, Room M166.
