LaGuardia Community College stands firmly against racism

April 21, 2021

Yesterday’s conviction of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd represents a first step toward redressing years of disparate treatment that has disproportionately affected African descended people. This step encourages us to reaffirm our commitment to racial and social justice and should fortify our opposition to any practice that discriminates against, divides, and marginalizes historically oppressed people and other marginalized groups.

LaGuardia Community College stands firmly against racism, hatred, bigotry and violence against BIPOC individuals. We must continue to fulfill our mission to prepare an educated, mindful, engaged citizenry that will protect and enhance the values we cherish, and lead us toward the just society we seek. While there is work for each of us to do, I am encouraged that we, as a community, can achieve the promise of our mission as we continue to strive toward creating a truly inclusive community.
