Bio: "Laura Pessoa was born in Queens but grew up in Minas Gerais, Brazil. At 18, she returned to the U.S. for the first time, in order to make a better life for herself. After many financial struggles, she encountered opportunity in LaGuardia Community College, where she is pursuing a Liberal Arts: Math and Science degree. Laura dreams of leaving a positive impact on the world, however small it may be, and believes the best way to do so is through fighting for equal access to scientific advancements. She seeks to achieve this goal by continuing her education to become a pediatrician, helping ensure children of all circumstances receive quality care, and promoting a health system centered around the patient instead of monetary gains. In her second semester in LaGCC, Laura became a Student Success Leader for Queens Community House, where she has supported freshmen students in adapting to college for more than a year. This experience made her desire to be more engaged on campus, and, in February 2020, she was elected Co-VP of Scholarship for Alpha Theta Phi, where she served as officer for 3 months. Laura has learned to love the enthusiasm and dedication of PTK Officers and members alike, and is committed to improving the Chapter during her 2020-2021 term as Vice-President."
