• President's Society


    As a President's Society ambassador you will join a unique program that will help you build the strong foundation of practical skills and the networks of successful friends and mentors needed to get ahead in today's world.


    Whether you're interested in transferring to a four-year college or getting a job in your chosen field, the President's Society will give you the skills and guidance you need from successful professionals in all walks of life.


    Students receive a stipend for their participation in the program.


    • Full-time LaGuardia students taking 12 or more credits (or equivalent)
    • Be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or greater
    • Students should have completed one full semester
      • Gain valuable skills to increase your preparedness and confidence as you transition from a community college student to a workforce professional or 4 year college student.
      • Participate in a wide range of networking opportunities with professionals in various fields to help explore career and college options.
      • Broaden your horizons through dynamic cultural events and activities, while building strong connections with influential supporters
      • Earn a stipend of $1,250 for your attendance and service for the semester in which you participate.
      • Career Planning: Interviewing, resume writing, networking with industry professionals.
      • Communications and Comportment: Public speaking, etiquette and dress.
      • Cultural Appreciation: Exposure to art, theatre, music and dance.
      • Community Service and Leadership: Support fellow students and serve as "Ambassadors" of the College.
      • Highly motivated students who ask questions, seek answers and demand more of themselves every day.
      • Ambassadors have a will to change and are determined to reach their potential.
      • Hold leadership positions at the College, maintain good academic standing, and demonstrate a consistent commitment to enhance their lives and communities.
      • They are self-starters who know how to take advantage of opportunities and they are people who try their hardest to fulfill their responsibilities.
      • President’s Society workshops will be held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 7:30 PM and Fridays from 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM.
      • To be eligible for President’s Society you will need to arrange your schedule so that you can make a firm commitment to attend all classes for either of these two sessions:
        • Session I: First Wednesday of Fall Session I to Last Wednesday in Fall Session II
        • Session II: First Wednesday in Fall Session II to Last Wednesday in Spring Session I
           

    We are optimistic that the 2020-2021 President’s Society will begin in the next academic year. We will be accepting applications from April through June 2020. Your health is our number one priority. Based upon the strength of your application, our hope is to reach out to students selected for an interview later this spring or summer, taking into consideration government recommendations.

    Stand Up for Environmental Justice and Make a Difference in Our Community.

    Join Presidents Society: The Environment

    • Learn the skills you need to make your voice be heard
    • Collaborate with the local community and government organizations
    • Work on important projects to make our neighborhood better

    • Full-time LaGuardia students taking 12 or more credits (or equivalent)
    • Be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or greater
      • Learn how to make a difference in your community through grassroots activism
      • Work with local community groups to influence change
      • Work on projects that improve the LaGuardia campus and surrounding area:
        • walk and bike friendly campus
        • community garden
        • improved water quality
      • Earn a stipend of $2,000 for participating in the program from November - June

      • PS Environment workshop will be held on Fridays from 1:00 – 3:00 PM and the time will be extended once per month on Fridays 1:00 – 5:00 PM (for group work and off-campus field work)
      • The program will run from November 2019 – June 2020
      • Passionate and out-spoken students who are interested in environmental justice
      • Students who want to be a part of community-led solutions and projects to address issues like water pollution
      • Self-starters who will take advantage of opportunities presented
